EFC II #2 – Hugo (2011)

The Epic Film Challenge II
#2 – Hugo (2011)
Dir. Martin Scorcese
Starring: Asa Butterfield, Chloë Grace Moretz, Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Jude Law, Ray Winstone, Christopher Lee, Emily Mortimer

The second installment of the Epic Film Challenge II, tying in with the first review, 2011’s Hugo, from acclaimed director Martin Scorcese. He blends both the 3D format with history, adventure and drama in a movie that could very well be interpreted as a two hour love letter to George Méliès, and the imagination of silent cinema.

Recorded in August 2013.

Oscar Wins: Best Cinematography (Robert Richardson), Best Art Direction (Dante Ferretti, Francesca Lo Schiavo), Best Visual Effects (Robert Legato, Joss Williams, Ben Grossmann, Alex Henning), Best Sound Editing (Phillip Stockton, Eugene Gearty), Best Sound Mixing (Tom Fleischman, John Midgley)

Is it a film you must see before you die?

Connie: Yes.

Luke: Yes. I believe it will be seen as a classic in decades to come.
